Clinical Trial for treating RRP with Celebrex
The Department of Otolaryngology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center is conducting a multi-centered NIH-sponsored research study of Celebrex (celecoxib) for the treatment of RRP (Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis). Celebrex has been shown to be effective in treating other types of benign tumors, including those caused by the same types of human papillomaviruses that cause RRP. Each participant will participate for 2 ½ years. In addition to surgery to remove the papillomas, 6 months after enrollment patients will be given Celebrex for one year and a placebo for 1 year, the order in which they are taken will be determined randomly.
To be eligible, patients must be at least 2 years old and must have had at least 3 surgeries in the past year to remove papillomas or have tracheal/bronchial disease. To learn more, contact Ginny Mullooly, RN at 718-470-7974. Travel reimbursement will be provided.
