The Department of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery at Boston University Medical Center is conducting a NIDCD sponsored clinical study to evaluate a new treatment for:

Pediatric patients with laryngeal papillomatosis

This study will compare the effectiveness of:

1)   A combined treatment of Pulse Dye Laser and DIM

Vs.

2)   Pulse Dye Laser and Placebo

Studies have demonstrated that pulsed dye laser (PDL) can remove lesions on the vocal cords with less damage to tissues than the carbon dioxide laser or cold-knife surgical techniques.

Recent studies have shown a potential role for the dietary supplement diindolylmethane (DIM), a dietary product, in the inhibition of the growth of RRP lesions.

The aim of our study is to develop a novel, less invasive, and long-term effective strategy for treatment of RRP in children. We intend to show that combining a laser microvascular targeting technique with orally administered DIM will result in control of the disease better than the control achieved with using the PDL alone.
